Minister Geoffrey Kelley announces financial support for the construction of a community garage in Listuguj

Québec City, March 11, 2105 – The Minister responsible for Native Affairs, Geoffrey Kelley, announced today an $861 079 grant for the construction of a community garage in Listuguj in the Gaspé Peninsula.

“The new community garage will be used to maintain public service equipment and vehicles that satisfy the community’s needs, in addition to providing staff with a safe, environmentally-friendly workplace,” Minister Kelley noted.

Chief Scott Martin of the Listuguj Mi’gmaq community was pleased with today’s announcement. “I’m keen to see the new garage, which will optimize Listuguj’s public services, for the considerable benefit of our community,” he said.

The Secrétariat aux affaires autochtones has provided the funding to build the new garage from the Fonds d’initiatives autochtones and the Fonds d’initiatives autochtones II (community infrastructure section). The fund is intended to support projects that generate significant spinoff in respect of the economic, social or community development of Québec’s Aboriginal nations.
