Introduction to Amerindian and Inuit Québec

Since the late 1970s, the Secrétariat aux affaires autochtones has been offering training sessions to the members of Québec’s public service. This is a component of the Secretariat’s mission, which seeks to maintain relations between the Aboriginal peoples and the Gouvernement du Québec.

The aim of this initiative is not only to coordinate government training activities dealing with the aboriginal question, but also to inform and promote awareness among the staff of the public and parapublic sectors about the realities of the Amerindians and Inuit in Québec. Moreover, the Secretariat adapts training sessions to the needs of certain groups that demonstrate a special interest in aboriginal matters.

During the two days of training, the Secretariat offers participants a different perspective by dispelling several myths and misconceptions. The speakers present the various problems, both past and present, raised by the aboriginal question and take advantage of the opportunity to elicit a discussion based on the themes addressed.
